“Identifying novel glial therapeutic targets in Parkinson’s disease”

There are no disease-modifying therapies for Parkinson’s disease, and glial cells have been overlooked as a source of potential therapeutic targets. Dr. Olsen will discuss efforts to better understand the genetic contribution of glia to Parkinson’s disease pathogenesis. These efforts rely heavily on a
Drosophila
model of Parkinson’s disease that can be used to understand the mechanism of known risk genes in glia and also to identify novel glial genes that contribute to pathogenesis.
